I invented my first game - Payout - when I was in my teens. It was rubbish, but I lied to my friends that Waddingtons were publishing it and that it would be stocked by Woolworths. To convince them, we spent a fruitless afternoon searching the game shelves of our local Woolies. We didn't find it, but to my amazement the sales assistant said he thought he had heard of it. Thank-you, whoever you were!
Other points of interest - I invented the dance to the Village People's YMCA. A wild and outrageous claim I know, but one that no-one has yet been able to disprove. Also, at school, playing for my Under 11 cricket team, I won the Fielding Cup two years running - a feat never previously achieved and something of which I am peculiarly proud. Finally, despite Stuart's claims to the contrary, I have never been beaten at Risk.
I first met Richard when I was a sales assistant at Woolworths. He was a timewaster show-off pretending he had invented some awful sounding game. To get him off my back I told him I had heard about it and sent him off to another shop.
I, on the other hand, am a bit of a board game aficionado. What I like best is adapting existing board games by adding house rules. Sometimes it might just be sound effects, other times it might be inventing some obscure penalties for predictable play. But whatever it is, I see it is an improvement.
I prefer party style games and the sillier they are the more I enjoy them. Although having said that, I do enjoy a little light strategy - I make pacts specifically to break them, and I remain unbeaten at Risk. No doubt Richard will scurrilously steal this claim for himself. Who would you believe? Remember we both invented our game Liar Liar!
Clara here, Richard's daughter. Actually my mum beat them both at Risk :-)
Esmeé here, Richard's other daughter. He didn't invent the dance from YMCA, embarrassing!!!
