Eurobabble Rules
EURØBÄBBLE - THE RULES
BOARD SET UP
Place the cards face down on their corresponding squares. Each player or team spins the spinner and the one who scores the highest starts. Play then proceeds in a clockwise direction.
GAMEPLAY
There are four categories of card: accent; action; question and word. By using the spinner board you select the category of the task to be performed. The number corresponds to the style (nationality/language) in which the task must be completed - as follows:
Accent - At the top of each accent card is a statement, which must be read in the accent of the selected nationality, according to your spin.
Action - You may reveal what your mime is but NOT the nationality you are imitating. The other players must guess the nationality. Remember this is a mime and so no talking/sound effects are allowed.
Question - You reveal the language and then read out the question in that language. Players have to give the answer in English.
Word - You reveal the word in English and the language that has been selected. You then read the three options. Players must then guess the correct answer. The correct answer is underlined.
Eurøbäbble can be played in teams or as individuals and the rules for each differ slightly.
TEAM PLAY RULES:
Each task is performed to your team. Once you have performed your task you may repeat it once if asked to do so. If your team guesses correctly you are awarded that country’s flag. If you already have that country’s flag you simply continue your go. If your team guesses incorrectly play passes to the next team. The aim is to win by collecting all six country flags.
INDIVIDUAL PLAY RULES (Minimum 3 players):
Each task is performed to all the other players. The first answer given is the only answer that counts. If the answer is correct, both you and the player giving the correct answer are awarded the flag of that country. If the answer is wrong, that player loses a flag - chosen by you and play passes to the person to your left. If they do not have any flags, they are not allowed to guess on the next go.
If you win a flag that you already have you simply continue your go. The winner is the first person to collect all six country flags and it does not matter in which category they were won, they could all be won in the same category.
NOTES OF IMPORTANCE
On action cards, players must decide what is acceptable in terms of relevance when miming the actions. Eg Flamenco dancing to indicate a Spanish person should not be acceptable when miming ”making a cup of tea” but may be acceptable when miming “posing at the disco”.
To increase the enjoyment and the amusement factor of the game, ‘best effort’ should always be employed when reading the questions and the words. It would be far too easy just to read them out without making an effort to pronounce them properly!
